MEET AISHA TISHA MOHAMMED
My name is Aisha Tisha Mohammed, born and raised in Gboko, Benue state. My dad is from Nasar- awa state, and my mum is from Benue state. So, I would say originally, I am from Nasarawa state.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
I studied Sociology, that was at Nasarawa State university, Keffi. So, I figured it was best to finish school first before going into acting fulltime.
For me, my life has always been about entertainment and I have thought of dif- ferent ways I can bring entertainment to the North Central.
WHAT WAS YOUR MOTIVATION INTO ACT- ING AND PRODUCING FILM?
Yeah. So, 2014 was when I launched into acting fulltime. Yeah, so I went to do a film in Ghana, “School pool party” yeah. From that first film in Ghana, I did more in Nigeria and then what made me go into pro- ducing was when a producer played me. Let me see if I can make you understand. Yeah. A producer called me for a Job and I was unavailable. So, one talk led to the other. We were just talking about the script and I asked him about it, and he was like telling me the story and I just felt like some things were not
in order and I made some corrections, and then he was impressed. So, from that conversation I was like I have stories of mine that I hope to shot some- day, that was what I told him. Then he was like we should sit and talk about it. You know, if he likes any of my stories, he could co-produce. Yeah, it was when he said that, I got excited because all that went through my head was oh, all these stories I had in my head are going to come to life and all of that. So, I was quick to tell him one of the stories, you know, and he liked it immediately – and few weeks afterwards he called to tell me that he had gotten a writer to write the story because I just told him verbally, is not like I had the script written.
Good! He liked the story, he got a writer to write it and then he was getting ready to shot and then he wanted me to be a part of it – but I was travel- ling that period, yeah. I was leaving the country for something else. Then he shot the film, and guess what? He got an award for the film.
So, the film got an award and then he told me he had given it to “African Magic.” I think that was the story and being with all the excitement was looking forward to when “African Magic” will start airing it. You know what he did was bring me a copy of the film, so the copy he brought to me had my name written, you know he gave me credit for the story. You know, like when the film starts, you will see the story about Aisha Mohammed in the copy he brought for me. But guess what? When it started airing on “African Magic”, I was somewhere with some friends, you know when the film came on air, I was like excited telling the people this is my story. And then there was a story by his name, he did not give me credit publicly.
So, that was what happened, and then it was a motivation for me to start producing mine, I am like I have these beautiful stories I can even win awards, so why can’t I produce the films? I can
do better, and then I did my first film “My name is Kardi”, and ‘my name is Kardi’ made it to Hollywood. Yes, it was not a film festival, it’s an International Film Award called “Holly- wood and Africa Prestigious Award.” (HAPA AWARD). Yeah. That’s in 2017, and I won an award for best actress in the film.
DO YOU HAVE ANY INTENTION OF SHOOT- ING A MOVIE IN NASARAWA STATE?
For me, my life has always been about entertainment and I have thought of dif- ferent ways I can bring entertainment to the North Central. And that’s why I figured it would be good to shot a film here in Lafia. Besides my thought, there are other persons, there were times I got messages from some indigenes telling me they are interested in film making and acting, that I should give them an opportunity. And I was like, who am I to give them an opportunity than to bring the movie industry to here,
so when I do a film here, I can get all those who are interested involved.
